Phenomena of wetting process could be widely found in the nature and industries. Fast development of Bio-science, Micro-Electro-Mechanical-Systems (MEMS) technology, and environmental protection technology, etc., trigger numerous studies on physics of wetting process/moving contact line (MCL). Since vastly disparate length scales are involved in the MCL dynamics, we should concern more about the coupling of flows in different length scales, and the modelling of microscopic behaviors (macroscopic one is described in the framework of classical mechanics). Furthermore, when the solid wall is heterogeneous, the problem will become more complex, both for experiments and theoretical analyses. In this presentation, I will introduce our numerical and experimental results obtained in the recent several years. The influences of heterogeneity of the wall on capillary flows with small capillary number will be focused on. The dynamics of contact line and meniscus is analyzed with consideration of the chemical and geometrical defects on the wall. As well, we proposed an empirical model for the industrial applications based on traditional Cox’s formula, which is mainly used in homogeneous walls.
