Institute of Photonics&Photon-Technology Northwest University

Institute of Photonic and Photonic Technology (IPPT) was founded in 1997 based on Shaanxi Key Laboratory of Photoelectric Technology. Prof. Xun Hou, a member of  Chinese Academy of Science is the director of IPPT and Prof. Jintao Bai is the vice director. The academic leaders of the institute are Prof. Xun Hou and Jintao Bai, and the young and middle-aged academic mainstays of the scientific and technological contingents include Prof. Zhaoyu Ren, Prof. Chongfeng Guo, Prof. Kaige Wang, Prof. Chun Wang and Prof. Xinlong Xu. The main research orientations cover Photophysics and Ultrafast phenomena, Laser Technology and Device, Photoelectric Material and Device, Nanobiophotonics, THz Photonics and Interdisciplinary Studies. Many excellent scientific research and teaching platforms are funded relying on IPPT, including National International Science & Technology Cooperation Base of Photoelectronic Technology & Functional Materials and Application, Province-ministry Co-constructed State Key Laboratory Incubation Base of Photoelectric Technology and Functional Materials in Shaanxi Province, Shaanxi Key Laboratory of Photoelectric Technology, Shaanxi Solid-State laser and Application Engineering Technology Research Center, Xi’an high-power Solid State Laser and Engineering Laboratory. The teaching and research faculty is rooted in the northwestern China with optimum structure, reasonable echelon and noble morality. In the 20 staff, one is the member of a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, twelve people have Senior professional titles, six faculties are Ph.D supervisors, and also 90% of the staff has the Ph.D degree. It also has six domestic part-time professors and 5 abroad visiting professors. IPPT has the authority to grant Ph.D and Master degrees of first-class disciplines in Physics, and Master program of first-class discipline in Optical Engineer. After years of development, some work has achieved national leading and international advanced level in the field of new-type all solid state Laser, Photoelectronic Functional Materials and device, and Photophysics and Photoelectronics. In the past five years, more than 50 research projects have been undertaken in IPPT, including the Projects of National Natural Science Foundation, National 863 programs, national 973 programs, Internaltional Science and Technology Cooperation Projects, National Science and Technology Key projects, and Provincial Science Projects. More than 200 research papers have been published, 5 provincial and ministerial level science and technology awards has been granted, and more than 30 patents were authorized in the past five years. Additionally, more than 20 Ph. D student and 60 master students have been cultivated.         Rooted in northwestern China, IPPT aims to lead the development of photonics industry, be oriented by the basic and applied research and strengthen the international communication and cooperation. The ultimate goal is to build a domestic excellent and internationally famous base for photonics production, research and talent training, and also spare no efforts to revitalize the region's economic development.
