The laboratory is founded in Dec. 1995, affiliated to Northwest University. The director of the laboratory is Prof. Xun Hou, a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and national outstanding expert. Prof. Xun Hou is the chief scientist of the national “Pandeng” plan on “Pico-second Laser Technology and Ultra-fast Processes Investigation ”, pair-employed professor Northwest University, adjunct professor of University of Science and Technology of China, Shaanxi Jiaotong University, and South China Normal University, director of Chinese Physical Society, chairman of the Physical Society of Shaanxi Province, executive director of Chinese Optical Society, and chairman of the Optical Society of Shaanxi Province. He has been long engaged in the researches on photocathode, photonics and ultra-fast photoelectric devices, and been honored with lots of scientific awards. Due to his attainments in transient optics and optoelectronics fields, Prof. Xun Hou has important implications both domestic and abroad. He is an outstanding representative of transient optics and photonics of our country.
The director of the academic committee of the laboratory is Hong Gao, a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, well-known analytical chemist both domestic and abroad, one academic leader in analytical chemistry of our country, and the founder of Chinese modern instrumental analysis. He graduated from Chemistry Department of Central University in 1943 and received his Ph. D degree in the University of Illinois in 1947. He is now the tenured professor of both Northwest University and Nanjing University. Prof. Hong Gao has long been engaged in the basic theories, new methods and new technologies researches in electroanalytical chemistry, especially the basic theories of polarographic analysis. In the field of Hanging mercury drop electrode, he proposed the amalgam diffusion current theory, the diffusion coefficient of metals in mercury measuring method, the diffusion formula of the metals in mercury and so on. He also theoretically deduced the current equations of various electric-induced polarized processes in all branches of Polarography and testified the equations experimentally, clarifying some controversies. Prof. Hong Gao has systematically researched and developed oscillographic analysis method and opened a new field of analytical chemistry.
The laboratory is now has a reasonable-structured team. There are 20 full-time researchers, 7 professors, 4 assistant professors, 7 lecturers, 1 research assistant, and 1 teaching assistant. The team is of the spirit of innovation, profound theories and reasonable knowledge structure. Effective achievements have been made in transient optics and ultra-fast processes, bio-photonics, photoelectronic technology and device and optical functional materials.
The discipline has a total area of 1500 square meters optical ultra-clean laboratory, nano- and optical functional materials preparation and testing laboratory, bio-photonics sample preparation laboratory, and electromagnetic shielding laboratory and so on. There are many large-scale equipments valued¥30 million, including large-scale fleet for theoretical calculation, femto-second laser, nano-second YAG laser, OPOs, excimer laser, Raman Spectrometer, atomic force microscope, ratio fluorescence spectrometer and so on.
